Carol Vernalis Theory

Carol  Vernallis

Carol believed that from observing music videos,  the rules of ‘continuity’ are not followed, instead they are broken apart which attracts the attention to what is on the screen. The edits used are very obvious again to grab attention to it. There are a lot more jump cuts used but there is always a master shot ( base track) which is used to structure the video and lastly the camera moves in time with the music, majority of the time.

In Primadonna – Marina and the Diamonds, there is no continuity editing, there are obvious editing such as the effect that makes the shot look old and that we’re watching it through a TV and the camera moves in time with the music.
