Progress Review 2!

I'm pleased with the development of my blogs since the start of the course, I have some very detailed analysis in to music videos which is definitely the reason that I was able to ensure that our video followed conventions corrects and successfully.

Because I planned to make sure that I keep up to date and really engage with the project this year, my planning is very detailed. We planned everything down to the last details which definitely payed off during filming!

Although filming didn't always go smoothly, I always kept the blog updated with changes and my thoughts/reflections.

\At the moment I have 93 blog posts including group blogs, however the majority aren't group blogs apart from the ones that are on the blogging checklist.

So, I'm happy with my individual blogging so far because I've stuck to the targets I set myself, just have to keep it up throughout the ancillary work now :)

Rough Cut Target Audience Feedback.

Rough Cut Audience Feedback

The blurrrrr effect !

We used this tutorial to help us put in our blur effect for the beginning part of our music video. It was vital that we got this part perfect as this is what our audience will be seeing first and we think that this blurry effect will intrigue our audience.

Reflection on Rough Cut.

Reflection on Rough Cut...

I am really happy with how the rough cut for our music video turned out! My group worked really hard to meet the deadline for the rough cut and we did :)
We have a variety of different shots that we have used and we have quick cuts throughout the video which keeps our audience interested. The structure of our music video is clear and if you turned the sound off you would be able to identify which bit of the video it is, for example the chorus is always the South Bank Skate Park scene. We have had lots of positive feedback about our music video which encourages us to keep working harder on it, it make it even better. There are some things we can improve on; there is one blurry shot that really stands out; so we will replace that with better shot, it is slightly jumpy at the beginning; so we will make sure there is no small gaps in our sequence and finally, we will add some filters and effects to make it more interesting and make the video better. But, overall I am really happy with the rough cut and I'm excited to carry on editing!

First Feedback on Editing

First Feedback

We got our first feedback on editing before the rough cut deadline. You can view it below.

Let the editing begin...

So today we started editing properly! Everything is going well so far. We have loads of base tracks to choose from and after finishing editing the first verse and some of the chorus we're excited to get going with the rest!

Here are some of our shots for the chorus waiting to be edited

Above is a screenshot of us looking at sharpening filters to adjust one of our blurry shots. It looked quite good and bright after being sharpened but to avoid attention being drawn to the shot we're only going to use it once.

Overall reflection on filming.

Overall reflection on filming

Overall, filming my groups music video has been very fun, exciting and a big learning experience for me. This is the first time I have ever made a music video. On day 1 of filming- at South Bank Skate Park I was a little nervous. It took me a little while to get used to all the people watching and taking photos of us and getting used to the new equipment I was using that I hadn't used in AS (the lights). Also, when we looked back at the footage, some of the shots were blurry so we wasn't able to use them and as a result we had to go back and re-film. Compared to our last day of filming, I am much more confident with all the equipment and I don't notice people starring anymore. None of our shots were blurry and  also it was a lot quicker as we all knew exactly what we was doing and what to expect. The filming itself was very different to filming in AS. For the music video, the camera had to be constantly moving and we had to use a bigger variety of different shots. I had lots of fun filming and experimenting with what camera shots worked best and which ones we didn't like as much. Filming the music video has been a big learning experience for me. I now know how to make a music video and what needs to be included to make it good. Me and my group worked very hard in the filming process and will continue to do so throughout the rest of the project!

Here are some pictures of me filming:

Research on filters

These are different kinds of effects that can be used to help improved our music video.

I think it would be nice if we included image control filters such as enhancing the colour of our footage and also maybe used a blurred effect towards the end of our video when it finishes.

Weather Report!

Today we are going to re-film some shots at South Bank Skate Park. We have checked the weather and it is not forecast to rain :) However we know that British weather is unpredictable so we will take an umbrella with us just in case.

Reflection on day 4 filming

This picture from day 4 of filming pretty much sums it up... We successfully filmed in our location (the tunnel near London Bridge) When we finished we decided to explore a bit more to get some more varied shots and we found another tunnel which Orrie is shown in above.

What went well?

We loved the purple lighting inside and lights on the ceiling, we managed to get some really good shots! - On in which the camera is focused on Orrie standing against the wall and then pans upwards to the lights on the ceiling as Orrie bends down.

We also had a last minute costume idea. Initially Orrie was going to wear the same clothes she wears in the Blackfriars scene, but to keep to the conventions we decided to add a new one. She wore patterned leggings with a baggy jumper along with her trademark red lipstick, nails and black beanie hat. This worked well to create the edgy urban image we originally decided on whilst planning - especially with the location.

Any problems?

We've struggled with the lighting a little bit. without it it was definitely too dark and when we used it it sometimes had a spotlight effect. We decided that is actually looks quite good though. However, we have enough shots that the lighting looks good in to choose from.

Shots from day 3

We've looked over the shots from Tuesday's filming at Blackfriars, luckily the shots came out well despite the wind! The camera was steady most of the time.

This rose really sums up the day for me. Because it was such a dull day we achieved the look we originally planned for - the red of the rose being the dash of colour in the scene.

So, although we wanted to film this scene at night when we first discussed it, we're happy with the effect of filming it during the day.

My reflection on filming so far..

So, a little summary of that long video ...

  • Day 1 went well! (We still need to re-film our blurry shots)
  • We had a little trouble as our schedule for half term didn't go to plan (Forgot the memory cards and then the lighting looked too much like a spotlight)
  • Day 2 - Went very well! We ended up filming less than we had planned (Cut out the shots of Orrie on the stairs we were planning to take because we've got so much to work with already
  • Day 3 - Was difficult to film because it was windy, we had to rush because it was getting dark (We will look over the footage tomorrow and see how it looks) - may have to re-film :(
  • Day 4 - I'm excited about the shots we took today. Hope that the lighting looks good because we've realised it's not easy to get right!
WE HAD SOME PROBLEMS WITH PASSERS BY WALKING IN TO OUR SHOTS - ANNOYING

Pictures from behind the scenes from day 3 of Filming!

These photos are from behind the scenes from day 3 of filming at Black Friars. Included are some pictures of our location; we filmed on a pier, however it was high tide as it had been raining earlier in the day so we made sure we were extra careful. Day 3 of filming was very successful, we got some great shots and were really happy with how they look. Orrie did a great job performing despite the fact it was freezing! Me (Emily) and Leila took it in turns to film; whoever wasn't  filming was taking these photos and helping to direct. For this scene we needed the red rose as it is our motif for our music video, however we forgot to bring it with us. Luckily we were able to buy one in a local Tesco; so we were still able to film :)
Overall, day 3 of filming went really well and we worked great together!

Weather Check!

We are about to start filming! We have checked the weather report and it is not forecast to rain today :) However we have still bought an umbrella with us as we know how unpredictable British weather is!

Reflection on filming Day 2

a few of our own pictures because we had so much fun!

Filming today at Mornington Crescent went really - considering the trouble we've had trying to film at Blackfriars. We got some great shots on the famous white wall (it lived up to expectations)

We didn't need to use any lighting because it a light area and early in the day. We managed to get a variation of different shot types with lots of camera movement so we're happy!

We had a last minute costume change since we couldn't find a red dress we liked. Orrie wore the red jumper on the right with jeans which worked well with the laid back natural urban look we were going for for this scene.
